Amber is formed from tree resin, and the largest deposit is found in the Baltic region, which dates back 44 million years. It is often found washed up on the beaches of the Baltic Sea. Over the years, evidence of many extinct species has been found in baltic amber, and according to Wikipedia “baltic amber includes the most species-rich fossil insect fauna discovered to date”.
